Definition: Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent in the Roman Catholic Church. "Shrove" is the past tense of the word "shrive," which means to hear a confession, assign penance, and absolve from sin. Shrove Tuesday is a reminder that we are entering a season of penance.
Shrove Tuesday is also known as Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras (which is simply French for Fat Tuesday). Definiton courtesy About.com
My friends are in Trinidad playing MAS/Carnival- there it is hot with cool costal brezees wafting through the island. It is cold here in fact freezing with the additional compliment of snow. I wish I was there with my friends frolicking half naked in an amazing costume drinking coconut water.
This morning I perked up when doing the school run one parent said oh it's Shrove Tuesday aka Pancake Day today. I love pancakes...always have but never really understood why in the UK [In Trinindad where I was raised it is all about Carnival) they have a special day for it...until this morning. Never in a million years would I have associated Shove Tuesday with Carnival Tuesday. So I simply had to share this revelation.
You can feast your eyes on these lovey creative costumes and the yummy looking pancakes...creativity holds no boundaries.Which would you prefer tobe in one these costumes playing Mas or enjoying some yummy pancakes?.................
Ok.....I am not there to celebrate Carnival and play MAS but I will make some yummy pancakes for my girls and their friends when they return from school this evening. [much rather be playing though!]
I wish you all a pleasant day................. I am off to buy fresh eggs and fruit.

Thanks for the memories. My hubby and I used to live in Pointe-a-Pierre. How I would love a really good roti. :)
Awe so do I, well who knew Point a Pierre! You must miss it terribly, i really miss the food and all the freedom of life and expression that I felt only there growing up. so nice that you stopped by. tight hugs.
Lots of eye candy today. I love the costumes and the pancakes look so good, I think I am going to have to make some pancakes for dinner tonight.

Hi Chelsea - Just a quick postscript. I found . . . well really my hubby found, a place for authentic Trinidadian Roti. It's a teeny tiny little restaurant up in Tampa, about a 30 to 45 min. drive from where I live. The owner/manager is Trinidadian and has that lovely island accent and best of all they have a killer roti. Since it had been over 20 years since I had a true roti, I felt like I had died and gone to heaven as I savored that very first luscious bite. OMG, it was too good to believe. I can tell my hubs and I are going to be making many trips up to Tampa in the future. ;)
